ARESUVA 2009 was organized by the National Gallery of Arts (NGA) which held between the 19th and 21st of November, 2009 at the foyer of the International Conference Centre. It was motley of artists, artworks, styles, and colors. It had over 50 Nigerian artists and 22 artists from other African countries in attendance.
The foyer of the International Conference Centre, venue of the event had paintings, photography, wood and metal sculptures on display to show that a major art exhibition was taking place.
Some artists present at the event include:
- Margie Otieno (A female Kenyan Artist),
- Mwandale Mwanyekwa (A Sculptor from Tanzania)
- Effiom Burns (Nigerian Artist)
- Lema Guya and His Son Dawit (Ethiopian)
- Gabriel malou (Senegal)
- Liman Mahdi (Nigerian)
Various papers were delivered by prominent art scholars such as Professor Yacouba Konate from Aica-University of Abidjan, Ivory Coast, on ‘The production of added value,’ Professor Osa Egonwa of the Delta State University, Dr. Frank Ugiomoh of the University of Port-Harcourt, Professor Sheriffideen Adetoro, Professor Ola Oloidi from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka who delivered a paper on ‘The unechoed medium: Art and economic prosperity in Africa.’
Also in attendance was the President of the Art Galleries Association of Nigeria, (AGAN), the National President of the Society of Nigerian Artists (SNA) and former National President, SNA.
